This work is inspired by the Rheticus project - a joint venture for artificial photosynthesis between the companies Evonik and Siemens. The aim of industrial photosynthesis is to contribute to a significant reduction in CO2 emissions. It uses carbon dioxide (CO2) and water as well as electricity from renewable sources and bacteria to produce specialty chemicals.

In a collaborative approach, the artist first visited the laboratories and experimental facilities of the Rheticus project and gained insights into research practice. In parallel, Hartmann researched the societal and scientific context and the implications of this technology.

The motifs were created from three-dimensional, collage-like stage sets (from photo prints), which the artist had staged using her photographs of the research facilities and research material. This creative technique enabled her to use photographic means to develop an artistic - sensually tangible - view of this futuristic project and to visually contextualise the underlying facts.

Diese fotografische Arbeit ist inspiriert vom Projekt Rheticus - einem Joint Venture der Firmen Evonik und Siemens zur künstlichen Photosynthese. Ziel der industriellen Photosynthese ist es, zu einer erheblichen Reduzierung der CO2-Emissionen beizutragen. Dabei werden in einem neuen Verfahren Kohlendioxid (CO2) und Wasser sowie Strom aus erneuerbaren Quellen und Bakterien zur Herstellung von Spezialchemikalien genutzt.

In einem kollaborativen Ansatz besuchte die Künstlerin zu fotografischen Zwecken die Forschungszentren des Rheticus-Projektes und erhielt Einblicke in die Arbeit der Wissenschaftler. Parallel dazu recherchierte sie den gesellschaftlichen und wissenschaftlichen Kontext und die Implikationen dieser neuen Technologie.

Für die künstlerische Umsetzung entwickelte Hartmann ihre Motive, indem Sie ausgewählte Ausdrucke ihrer Fotodokumentation von den Forschungseinrichtungen mit kontextualisierendem Recherchematerial in dreidimensionalen, collage-ähnlichen Bühnenbildern inszenierte, um diese dann für das finale Bild zu fotografieren.
